INTERPRETATION SWAZILAND
A landlocked nation in southern Africa it borders South Africa on three sides. Its name comes from its people (Bantu) and one of its kings, a great fighting warrior and grew the kingdom & brought & power to his people. There are slight differences between the Swazi tribes but any of them that hold allegiance to the twin monarches “The Lion” (the king) and :” The She Elephant” ( the Queen mother).
Life expectancy is low. Tuberculosis kills nearly 20%, high HIV co-infection /
Mental illness is also because of all the death sickness, poverty and sexual violence and people with mental illness are stigmatized. There is about one psychiatrist per million people. HIV/Aids is the highest in the world- over 25%. It is estimated that nearly 70% of deaths are HIV related. Such high rates of death have created high number of orphans and extreme poverty.
Most HIV is heterosexual transmission-- through inconsistant condom use, intergenerational sex, prostitution, gender inequalities, rape, polygamous marriage, and multiple partners.
Religion- Traditional Swazi religion recognizes a supreme God or creator, but also spirits of ancestors.
Christanity- 83% (Angelican, Protestant & indigenous African Zionist)
