INTERPRETATION OF BENIN
A country in north west Africa, located in the armpit of Africa. It borders Nigeria. It is a birthplace for the vodun (voodoo) religion and used to be known as the Slave coast. Most of its population lives on the coast.
Religion- 43% Roman Catholic, 25% Islam, 18% Vodun, traditional/ animism 8%
Vodun centers around spirits and so it was found compatible with Catholicism so much of the “Christian” is a mixture. Its primary god is a female whose masculine counterpart is represented as a phallus.
INTERPRETATION OF IMAGERY
The nations very shape reveals its vodun god. I see the “seed” dribbling out to pollute the waters of the world as slaves carried their beliefs with them.
