INTERPRETATION OF MACEDONIA
A landlocked country of southeast Europe in the Balkan peninsula it is one of the successor states of former Yugoslavia which declared independence from Russia in 1991 and borders Greece. Although they have been Macedonia since antiquity Greece disputed over them taking the name Macedonia, so in order to join the U.N. they had to take a provisional name of ‘The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia--FYROM”.
It is this Macedonia that Paul heard the call to evangelize, making it the first European nation mentioned to receive the gospel. Macedonia got its name from two of the children of Greek gods-- so was a very pagan nation at that time. Act 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
Flag- Greece contested the use of Macedonia’s ancient sun symbol= the Vergina sun (16 rays looking like a crown) and the new sun symbol has only 8 points for “New sun of liberty”.
Religion- Eastern Orthodoxy- 65%, Islam 34%, Macedonia has the fifth highest population of Muslims ion Europe.
