INTERPRETATION BAHAMAS
An archipelago nation of over 700 islands in the Atlantic north of Cuba and was actually Columbus’ first landfall in the new world in 1492. Britain settled them and and after the American war of Independence, Britain resettled thousands of American loyalist and their slaves in the Bahamas part of Britain’s Commonwealth today. Africans constitute the majority of the population from this period onward and later became a haven for escaped American & freed slaves. Today their descendents make up nearly 90% of the population.
