INTERPRETATION OF BHUTAN
A landlocked nation of Asia, it is the littlest state of Asia and located entirely within the Himalaya mountains. It borders China and is part of the historical “silk road”. They are notable for the concept of ‘gross national happiness’ included in their constitution as being more important than a gross national product. Bhutan ranks high in economic freedom, ease of doing business and peace and is the least corrupt country in 2016.
They have high daily charges for tourist and strict rules, so it is not very popular. They are the first nation of the world to make smoking illegal in 2010 and violators get heavy fines. Buddhist beliefs teach against taking intoxicants into the body long before the dangers of tobacco came about.
Part of their national identity is based on being a Buddhist nation and is governed by a Buddhist theocracy. The King is known as the “dragon king” as the name Bhutan translates into ‘the land of thunder dragons”. Because of the violent storms on the mountain tops.
